About Zephyr's School Data

School data for public, private and charter schools was compiled from publicly available data sources, including: California Department of Education Public Schools Database, San Francisco Unified School District 2008-2009 School Profiles, California Department of Education DataQuest 2008-2009 Accountability Progress Reporting for San Francisco County, Ed-Data Education Data Partnership (ed-data.k12.ca.us), National Center for Education Statistics PSS Private School Universe Survey Data for the 2007-2008 School Year, California Department of Education 2008-2009 Private School Directory, and the California Department of Public Health 2008 California School Immunization Rates.

The Admission Probability statistic is based on the total number of available spaces less the number of spaces allocated for siblings of current students, divided by the total number of applicants less the number of spaces allocated for siblings, for applicants of the lowest grade level of the school (i.e. for a K-5 school, number is based on Kindergarten admissions, for 6-8, number is based on 6th grade admissions, for 9-12, number if based on 9th grade admissions). The number of siblings is estimated based on a sampling of schools from the "Highlights of Round 1: 2009-2010 School Year" report prepared by the SFUSD Educational Placement Center, dated March 13, 2009. Elementary Schools: 414 siblings / 1,338 capacity, for 30.94% of open spaces allocated to siblings. Middle Schools: 199 siblings / 1,666 capacity, for 11.94% of open spaces allocated to siblings. High Schools: 323 siblings / 1,854 capacity, for 17.42% of open spaces allocated to siblings.

The new Chinese Immersion School and San Francisco International High School both opened in Fall 2009 and do not yet have statistics reported for many areas.

Private schools are not accredited by the California Department of Education, and as such, are not subject to the same reporting or standardized testing as public and charter schools. Because of this, there is very little uniform publicly available data. For more information about private schools, please contact the school for detail about their accreditation, test scores and other information.
