Visitacion Middle School's mission is to provide a quality education that prepares students for a fulfilling life in a global society. The school, rich in ethnicity and culture, is known nationally for its innovative programs. Teachers and students are assigned to academic families that focus instruction on technology, writing, hands-on throughout the year. Parents/guardians are important members of the Visitacion Valley family, participate in site activities and serve as voting members on the school's decision-making council known as Key Stakeholders in Education Council. A variety of services are offered through the Community Beacon. The Beacon works in collaboration with social, recreational, physical and mental health agencies to provide after-school, evening, and weekend activities for youth and their families. Social workers provide direct services to students and families through a School Coordinated Care Team. Numerous after-school activities such as tutoring, gardening, swimming, dancing, art, sports are offered to students. Adult classes (ESL, Computer Skills, etc.) are also offered during the day, evening, and weekends. All of these groups are unified by the School Site Council and guided by our School Site Plan.

Tech Company Donates to Daniel Webster Elementary School

Last month, Sifteo, a Dogpatch start up company donated 25 sets of its interactive Sifteo cubes to Daniel Webster Elementary School.  The computers are being used by first graders to help with phonemic awareness, and as part of afterschool vocabulary and spelling programs.  Sifteo is making monthly visits to the after-school program to evaluate how well the Cubes are working, and solicit student ideas about new game designs.

School Address Fraud

Much has been written about the upcoming changes to the SF school assignment system... and one of the new aspects is supposed to be better verification that the address you provide for your student is actually the address where the student lives.
