Sunset Elementary School is a unique and diverse community of students, parents, staff, and principal committed to providing outstanding educational opportunities for our children. We share a vision of academic excellence and the understanding that our children need nurturing and developing to be tomorrowÕs leaders.

We embrace our cultural, theater arts, visual arts, instrumental and choral music in our visual and performing arts program. The Environmental Science Program includes the Outdoor Science Program and Water Week culminating with a Water/Environmental Fair. On-site garden areas enhance our school grounds and the FOSS Science kits contribute to the hands-on portions of our science program.

We are committed to the Caring School Community Program focusing on class meetings for unity building, cross-aged buddies activities to promote positive student experiences, and community building with school wide and home activities. Staff participates in ongoing professional development focusing on teaching strategies and approaches, best instructional practices, and academic learning.

Tech Company Donates to Daniel Webster Elementary School

3-1-2012

Last month, Sifteo, a Dogpatch start up company donated 25 sets of its interactive Sifteo cubes to Daniel Webster Elementary School.  The computers are being used by first graders to help with phonemic awareness, and as part of afterschool vocabulary and spelling programs.  Sifteo is making monthly visits to the after-school program to evaluate how well the Cubes are working, and solicit student ideas about new game designs.

School Address Fraud

Much has been written about the upcoming changes to the SF school assignment system... and one of the new aspects is supposed to be better verification that the address you provide for your student is actually the address where the student lives. ABC 7 had a story last night about a bunch of cases of address fraud that have been recently found in the district, with the district only putting in a minimal amount
