More than just a school, New Traditions is a multicultural, multiethnic, vital community, developing students into responsible, active participants ready for the challenges of the future. The school's central location near Golden Gate Park'sanhandle provides easy access to San Francisco' cultural and educational sites, helping students learn in art library. All students receive weekly instruction from professional art teachers in a broad spectrum of the visual arts. Students also receive weekly instruction in music or dance, and fifth-grade students participate in a photography program with the San Francisco Art Institute. New Traditions also collaborates with the University of San Francisco and San Francisco State University. Private grants and parent fundraising efforts support programs that contribute to student success. Involvement in the creative arts helps students to succeed academically in all areas of the core curriculum. The learning environment stresses cooperation in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual support. Team teaching, peer tutoring, consistent behavioral expectations and strong parental support are all key elements contributing to our school' success. Weekly Spanish classes are offered to students after school.

Tech Company Donates to Daniel Webster Elementary School

Last month, Sifteo, a Dogpatch start up company donated 25 sets of its interactive Sifteo cubes to Daniel Webster Elementary School.  The computers are being used by first graders to help with phonemic awareness, and as part of afterschool vocabulary and spelling programs.  Sifteo is making monthly visits to the after-school program to evaluate how well the Cubes are working, and solicit student ideas about new game designs.

School Address Fraud

Much has been written about the upcoming changes to the SF school assignment system... and one of the new aspects is supposed to be better verification that the address you provide for your student is actually the address where the student lives. ABC 7 had a story last night about a bunch of cases of address fraud that have been recently found in the district, with the district only putting in a minimal amount
