Marina Middle School is located in the heart the beautiful Marina District. Our current enrollment is approximately 1100 students in grades 6, 7 and 8. Our 6th grade classes are self-contained to provide a more nurturing environment for these students, while 7th grade classes are cored (2 classes with the same teacher) and the 8th grade classes n t and community involvement and a varied extracurricular program. We provide varied levels of instruction which include Title I literacy classes, math lab support, differentiated curriculum & honors classes as well as basic core curriculum instruction. We are very proud of our excellent Dual Language Program (Cantonese/English). We also have an extensive English as a Second Language Program that provides an outstanding opportunity for our students to perfect their English skills. Marina also has a very active Student Government, a Yearbook class, Journalism and a school n e w s p a p e r. Our expanded Learning program is currently being used as a State model for excellence in after-school pursuits. Course offerings include Focus study center (tutoring), computers, drama, creative writing, YMCA recreation, gardening, hip hop, sailing and more. A Healthy Start Grant allows Marina to provide a wide range of services to our students & their families related to health and safety.

Tech Company Donates to Daniel Webster Elementary School

Last month, Sifteo, a Dogpatch start up company donated 25 sets of its interactive Sifteo cubes to Daniel Webster Elementary School.  The computers are being used by first graders to help with phonemic awareness, and as part of afterschool vocabulary and spelling programs.  Sifteo is making monthly visits to the after-school program to evaluate how well the Cubes are working, and solicit student ideas about new game designs.

School Address Fraud

Much has been written about the upcoming changes to the SF school assignment system... and one of the new aspects is supposed to be better verification that the address you provide for your student is actually the address where the student lives. ABC 7 had a story last night about a bunch of cases of address fraud that have been recently found in the district, with the district only putting in a minimal amount
