Welcome to Horace Mann Middle School located in the Mission District! A family configuration encourages the academic and social growth of each student. Academically, the teacher teams strengthen the studentÕs ability to learn by thematically connecting the core subjects: language arts, social studies, science and mathematics. As part of our work with our students to build self-confidence, mutual respect, leadership and community involvement. These include student government, cooperative learning techniques, and school-wide projects. We feel that if we can provide additional literacy support to our students, we will then be able to have them understand the content in their other subjects better. In addition to the strong academic emphasis at Horace Mann, our school provides a rich and wonderful after school program that focuses on the studentÕs academic as well as social development. We have formed strong relationships with neighborhood Community Based Organizations to support student growth. Such programs include the YMCA, YWCA, Jamestown Learning Center, Instituto, Horizons, Mexican Museum and many more. Students receive academic tutoring as well as the opportunity to participate in art, drama, sports and music programs.

Tech Company Donates to Daniel Webster Elementary School

3-1-2012

Last month, Sifteo, a Dogpatch start up company donated 25 sets of its interactive Sifteo cubes to Daniel Webster Elementary School.  The computers are being used by first graders to help with phonemic awareness, and as part of afterschool vocabulary and spelling programs.  Sifteo is making monthly visits to the after-school program to evaluate how well the Cubes are working, and solicit student ideas about new game designs.

School Address Fraud

Much has been written about the upcoming changes to the SF school assignment system... and one of the new aspects is supposed to be better verification that the address you provide for your student is actually the address where the student lives. ABC 7 had a story last night about a bunch of cases of address fraud that have been recently found in the district, with the district only putting in a minimal amount
