Creative Arts Charter School (CACS) was founded by a dedicated group of parents who wanted to provide their children with high-quality public education through creative exploration. CACS embraces learning as a dynamic experience in which children actively participate in the process of inquiry and creativity. Students learn language arts, models (heavily influenced by Reggio Emilia), value students as individuals and help nurture their academic and personal growth. Parents participate actively in the learning experience. Classes are limited in size. The result is a progressive education program that builds critical thinking skills in children who are able to explore, examine, test and make sense of the world. Students progress through each grade feeling intellectually strong and imaginatively rich and competent.

Creative Arts Charter School teachers and staff provide innovative educational experiences in collaboration with students, utilizing the arts as a vehicle for investigation, problem solving and multi-modal learning. While working in the arts, students are uniquely called upon to envision and set goals, determine methods to reach those goals, re-vision and re-work original ideas, work collaboratively, and develop self-discipline.

Charter School information and program offered Students from Kindergarten through the fifth grade participate weekly in Visual Arts, Music, and Dance / Theater classes. Small class sizes (10-12 students) assure quality learning experiences. The programs in each of these disciplines are sequenced by grade level in accordance with the State of CaliforniaÕs Visual and Performing Arts Teaching Standards. In grades six through eight, students select a specific art form in the area they wish to emphasize as they prepare to apply to the School of the Arts. They take classes in that core discipline twice a week. Additionally, they choose an elective arts class, which they attend once a week. CACS offers a wide assortment of elective classes, currently including drumming, theater improvisation, current art forms (such as Japanese Animation), yoga and Òband meets rag-tag-orchestra.Ó

Tech Company Donates to Daniel Webster Elementary School

Last month, Sifteo, a Dogpatch start up company donated 25 sets of its interactive Sifteo cubes to Daniel Webster Elementary School.  The computers are being used by first graders to help with phonemic awareness, and as part of afterschool vocabulary and spelling programs.  Sifteo is making monthly visits to the after-school program to evaluate how well the Cubes are working, and solicit student ideas about new game designs.

School Address Fraud

Much has been written about the upcoming changes to the SF school assignment system... and one of the new aspects is supposed to be better verification that the address you provide for your student is actually the address where the student lives. ABC 7 had a story last night about a bunch of cases of address fraud that have been recently found in the district, with the district only putting in a minimal amount
