The Chinese Education Center is a community of educators, newcomer parents, and students whose primary goal is academic excellence and lifelong learning. They work together in a fail-safe setting of openness, mutual respect and sharing, in a warm, caring and nurturing environment. The mission of the school is to provide newcomer students and listening, speaking, reading, and writing: provides access to the core curriculum through the students' primary language and develops basic personal, social, and academic skills.

Today, the school still serves Non-English Proficient immigrant students. Our students come from both urban and rural areas of China, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia and other Chinese speaking countires. Many live in Chinatown, North Beach, the Tenderloin and Visitavion Valley areas. Increasingly, more are coming from other parts of the city. Our students are highly motivatedand eager to learn. Cultural and family values foster positive attitudes toward education, teachers and school.

All the students are screened by the SFUSD Education Placement Center for assignment to our school. The students receive and English Plus Program which includes English acquisition, content instruction in primary language, primary language support and community orientation. They stay for one academic year and are then transferred to a dual language enrichment program in other schools within the district.

Tech Company Donates to Daniel Webster Elementary School

Last month, Sifteo, a Dogpatch start up company donated 25 sets of its interactive Sifteo cubes to Daniel Webster Elementary School.  The computers are being used by first graders to help with phonemic awareness, and as part of afterschool vocabulary and spelling programs.  Sifteo is making monthly visits to the after-school program to evaluate how well the Cubes are working, and solicit student ideas about new game designs.

School Address Fraud

Much has been written about the upcoming changes to the SF school assignment system... and one of the new aspects is supposed to be better verification that the address you provide for your student is actually the address where the student lives. ABC 7 had a story last night about a bunch of cases of address fraud that have been recently found in the district, with the district only putting in a minimal amount
