The motto at Dr. Charles R. Drew Alternative School is "Children First." The school is known for its nurturing atmosphere and strong academic program. Students meet high standards for academic achievement and behavior. Dr. Charles R. Drew offers hands-on, minds-on project-based learning. Teachers receive ongoing training in mathematics, science trips to natural settings throughout the Bay Area. A corporate partnership with Tetra Tech provides academic support through tutors and a pen pal program. Advent Software volunteers provide additional literacy support.

Much has been written about the upcoming changes to the SF school assignment system... and one of the new aspects is supposed to be better verification that the address you provide for your student is actually the address where the student lives. After years of debate, lawsuits and numerous community meetings, the San Francisco Unified School District voted unanimously on a new school assignment system Tuesday night.
