Bessie Carmichael/ Filipino Education Center offers English Plus Spanish in addition to English Plus Filipino and English Language Development. The Filipino Education CenterÕs recent move to the "Bessie" campus enhanced the emphasis on literacy and cultural appreciation. Specially Developed Academic Instruction in English enhances the academic supplemented by the Parks and Recreation Center across the street. The PTA provides funds for a library aide. With its proximity to downtown, Bessie Carmichael benefits from many community and business volunteers who tutor in the classrooms and in on-site before-school and after-school programs.

SFUSD New School Assignment Plan Decided

After years of debate, lawsuits and numerous community meetings, the San Francisco Unified School District voted unanimously on a new school assignment system Tuesday night. This so-called hybrid plan is a compromise between the wishes of parents who want to attend neighborhood schools and legal demands to maintain diversity.
