Stonestown is home to San Francisco State University and the enclosed mall known as Stonestown Galleria. Lakeside, a mostly-residential neighborhood, is just to the north and east. Once the site of horse racing, roadhouses and farms, the area has given way to colleges, shopping, a nearby zoo, golf course, lakes and a municipal park. The area has lots of well-kept green space, and proximity to the Pacific Ocean provides many outdoor recreational opportunities.
