Farley's long-standing tradition of donating its tips to the San Francisco Food Bank, will continue on Thanksgiving Day. The Food Bank provides food to more than 400 local nonprofit groups. Farley's will be open from 7:30 am to 2 pm on Thanksgiving, so stop by for a cup of joe and tip generously. Farley's is located at 1315 18th Street.

The annual Halloween parade starts on 18th Street at 6 pm, on Monday, October 31st. This is organized by the Potrero Hill Parents Association. Bring your kids in costume for the parade and trick or treating in the neighborhood, an annual Potrero Hill tradition. A great chance for you to dress in costume also, it's lots of fun.

Don't miss this most wonderful and exciting event as the tradition carries on! The parade begins at 1 pm beginning at 18th Street at Arkansas and running right up the middle of 18th. There will be kids, pets, and adults in costume all led by the mystery "animal" of the year.

This coming Sunday, October 23rd, from 11-2 pm, the Pawtrero folks will be hosting their fifth annual Halloween fest, a benefit for Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, Grateful Dogs Rescue, and Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue. Adopt a dog or learn about fostering; get your dog's nails trimmed and his photo taken, with proceeds going to charity; show off your pet's costume; and much more.

On Saturday, October 22nd, there will be a barbecue and free lecture about 90 years of Hill History, between Goat Hill Phil in conversation with Josephone Firpo Alioto from 7-9 PM. The barbecue is $6 and dessert $2, and begins at 5:30 PM to benefit the International Studies Academy. There will be music and more surprises. In the Dogpatch area of Potrero Hill, located at the corner of Illinois and Mariposa Streets, is a gluten-free grocery store. Gluten, for those of you who don't know, is wheat, barley, and rye. It is operated by Calvin Chin and Topher Delaney, the latter of whom also owns adjacent landscape design firm Seam Studio. The store is an outgrowth of a website, www.glutenfreereviewer.com, devoted to reviewing gluten free foods.
