When he joined the Zephyr team 10 years ago, he discovered that Project Open Hand was an ongoing commitment among Zephyr agents, and he subsequently became the Zephyr coordinator. As the coordinator, Freas promotes the program, recruits participants, schedules the teams and ensures that it happens every week.

Founded in 2000, the program offers 75 scholarships annually to students graduating in the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) who have financial need and the ambition to continue their education.
