The not-so-good news is San Francisco home values dropped 18.4% in the fourth quarter of 2010 compared to 2009. The good news is that this could mean we’re close to hitting bottom, according to Stan Humphries, Zillow Chief Economist.

Existing home sales dropped 27.2 percent nationally to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 3.83 million units in July from a downwardly revised 5.26 million in June, and are 25.5 percent below the 5.14 million-unit level in July 2009, according to a report issued today by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR).

It appears that things may be looking up once again for SF homeowners. According to Standard & Poor's, San Francisco is now the top performing residential real estate market in the nation, with an 11.9% gain in home values over the last 12 months.
