San Francisco, CA – February 28, 2011
– Over the past several years, arts programs have been virtually eliminated or, at best, vastly reduced, in the public school arena. Zephyr agent Garrett Goldman
and his partners saw the need for programs to encourage creative spirit and educational opportunities for under-served students and schools. By Any Dreams Necessary
, founded in 2009, began fund-raising in order to start the Artist in Residence School Program, as well as to award college scholarships to augment public school programs. None of the funds raised are used for salaries or compensation of any kind for the directors. It is truly their labor of love and commitment to help students discover and pursue a passion for the arts and to gain access to higher education by providing financial and educational support.
The Artist in Residence School Program places an experienced arts educator in a public middle school during the spring semester of each academic year. The goal is to provide art education to students who attend low-resource schools that would otherwise be unable to include art in their curriculum. Instruction is offered in one or more visual and performing arts.
The first Artist in Residence School Program began this semester at Urban Promise Academy, a public middle school in Oakland. Octavio De La Paz is the instructor, and he brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and energy to the program. For eight years he has been a champion of arts education and child advocacy, teaching an innovative arts curriculum in the after-school programs at Malcolm X Arts and Academic Magnet Elementary School in South Berkeley and ASA Academy in Oakland.
“We are fortunate and delighted to have Octavio join our program,” stated Goldman. “Having a direct impact on the community with our Artist in Residence School Program and College Scholarship program has been a dream come true.”
Goldman is a top producer with Zephyr Real Estate, and has been in the industry several years including co-owning a boutique real estate brokerage in Bernal Heights before joining Zephyr in 2008. He is a member of the San Francisco, California and National Associations of REALTORS®.
Kudos to Goldman and those who see a need, and go the extra step beyond to fill it. Check out the website at www.anydreams.org
