For the past 9+ years, I've volunteered for the San Francisco Ballet by working in The Ballet Shop on the mezzanine level. During Nutcracker, which usually starts early December and goes through New Year's, the shop carries wooden nutcrackers of every size, color, and style, and hundreds of different ornaments. I worked the Sunday matinee performance yesterday and we sold tens of thousands of dollars worth, earning money for the ballet.
I love seeing the families and kids dressed up
in their holiday finery. Many children are accompanied by their
grandparents, and it's so fun to watch them navigate through the crowded
shop, looking for a memento of the occasion, or perhaps a gift for a
loved one at home. The look of delight and surprise on their faces makes
me smile, and I love being in that atmosphere to launch the season.
If you can't find a nutcracker to your liking on this table, you're probably not going to find it anywhere!
