Who says you can never go home again? Pier 39’s noisy neighbors are here to tell you… they beg to differ. After deserting their K-Dock home a few years ago to chase the fish in Oregon, record numbers of sea lions are back where they belong, barking and basking in the sun at Fisherman’s Wharf. Locals and tourists gather daily to watch the rafts of pinnipeds (four-legged aquatic mammals) romp, splash, and argue with one another about who gets the best spot on the boards. It’s the riotous rock concert that never ends, but North Beach neighborhood residents don’t mind the mosh pit of marine mammals. Even if they did, these beloved clowns of the sea are here to stay.
