Raise a Roof for Friends at I.M. Scott is an effort to repurpose the two derelict bungalows at the I. M. Scott School, the old school on Tennessee Street at 22nd, and the oldest schoolhouse in San Francisco.  The goal of Raise a Roof is to turn the south bungalow into a Family Center, serving new parents and providing a multi-purpose meeting space for the community after hours.  For decades, these bungalows have been decrepit shacks that the School District wanted to tear down -- they've been so neglected that they've become an attractive nuisance: they've been illegally inhabited over the years, have been cited as fire hazards, and regularly attract dumping.

The Friends of Potrero Hill Preschool was founded in 1996.  Since then, the school had to move three times and is now located in a temporary space in Ocean View, while the new home at I. M. Scott is built.  When complete, the preschool will return to serve the Potrero Hill neighborhood.  An enormous, all volunteer effort has been put forth to find the money to build this school.  For more info and to donate to go:  www.raisearoof.org.
