In San Francisco there is obviously very limited available space. Sometimes apartment dwellers and condo owners just don't have a patch of earth to call their own. The answer for those who wish to nurture something growing out of the dirt, is a community garden. According to the San Francisco Garden Resource Organization, there are 51 community gardens in San Francisco. There are 14 gardens that have a long to very long waiting list, 2 gardens that have a short wait list, 4 gardens that have no plots available and so on. The Mission Creek Community Garden located at 300 Channel Street amidst the newly developed Mission Bay area of San Francisco, has the longest wait list I have ever seen...10-15 years!!!
Here is a picture of the Potrero Hill Community Garden. The wait list is approximately 25 people or about 2 1/2 - 3 years. Enjoy!
